Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, in Beverly Hills, Calif. Destiny's Child was
nominated for best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal, and
best R&B Album. The trio will be among the presenters at the 44th
annual Grammy Awards ceremony scheduled for Feb. 27 in Los Angeles. THE 2002 BREAK The ladies of Destiny's Child plan to be "Independent Women," taking time off from the group to concentrate on solo projects. Already, lead singer Beyoncé Knowles has a featured role in the upcoming "Austin Powers" sequel, and she and fellow members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland have discussed the possibility of solo albums. Beyoncé
told cable's E! channel that it's time for the Columbia group to go on
hiatus, but they're not breaking up. Destiny's Child is not breaking up, the group announced today (December 13) in a statement issued to quell the flurry of rumors about the group's demise recently circulating in the media. Destiny's Child's upcoming plans include new albums, television appearances in both the United States and Europe, and much more in the future, according to the group's Columbia Records label. Singer Michelle Williams recently explained backstage at the Billboard Music Awards that Destiny's Child will also embark on a world tour in the spring of 2002. "We are going to resume our world tour, which was postponed. We will be everywhere from April to June--Europe, Australia, Japan, everywhere--so if you look at www.dc-unplugged.com you will be able to find those wonderful tour dates," she said. We are very much a group, very much together, and plan to be for many years," the trio said in the statement. "We've worked really hard to get to where we are and have been blessed with success and the incredible support for our fans. We're like sisters. We really love and understand each other and have such a great time that we can't even think about breaking up Destiny's Child. The statement continued: "We just want to take a little time to work on some things that reflect our individual personalities and we're going to help and support each other with everything we do. We're going to see our fans on our spring world tour and start working on a new group album right after that." In the meantime, each member of the group is working on her own individual projects. Knowles appears as Foxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers In Goldmember, due in theaters July 26. Williams has been recording an album of inspirational music, and Rowland is recording material for an album showcasing her own combination of R&B, rock and soul. WE THINK D.C. Franklin says she hasn't spoken to the group since the split 15 months ago. The singer hopes to publish the autobiography next year soon after her debut solo album. Franlkin says: 'This past year I learned not to do things for money and glitter. I'm happier discovering this. I know what's really true to me. The singer, whose middle name is actually Destiny but was told to drop it by the other members of the group, continues: 'All my life I went by Destiny Franklin until I joined Destiny's Child. They asked me to use Farrah,' says Farrah who split with the group in August 2000 on the eve of an Australian tour. Asked if she's spoken with Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle since the split she replies, 'No.'. Earlier this year Farrah told MTV, 'There was a lot of negativity in the group, and I was unhappy. I felt like I had no say in which way my career was going and I lost my identity. I know I made the right decision to leave.' She's also planning a 2002 calendar and a new album due soon which features a duet, Get At Me, with rapper Method Man. Duets with Nelly and Trina, other acts on the FoReel Entertainment label to which she signed after Destiny's Child, are being lined up. Farrah says, 'It's a new R&B sound. I don't think I sound like anybody. I have party songs and love songs, but definitely no male bashing.' Farrah, who also stars as rapper DMX's wife in the third installment of The Crow horror movie series and can be seen in Nelly's new video #1, says, I'm working on an autobiography and a calendar as well. I will also have a web site launched shortly to promote my music. I feel very blessed.' Worldpop.com DESTINY'S CHARITY For the third consecutive year, "A Home for the Holidays," sponsored by the Children's Action Network and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, will feature four inspirational stories about adoptive families as well as celebrity presenters who either have their own adoption experiences or are deeply involved in children's issues. These heartwarming stories will be highlighted with moving performances by Destiny's Child, as well as Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, Mandy Moore, Josh Groban and Charlotte Church. The television special hopes to raise awareness about foster care adoption, as there are currently over 545,000 children in foster care in the UnitedStates. "A Home for the Holidays" - Friday, December 21, 2001 8:00 PM/ EST, CBS! (8 November 2001) B'S DESTINY Arriving in stores Tuesday is 8 Days of Christmas, a new holiday album from the trio Destiny's Child. Besides a selection of holiday standards, the 12-track album also includes five originals--the title track; "Winter Paradise"; "Spread a Little Love on Christmas Day" and "Opera of the Bells" by the group's Beyoncé Knowles; and "O Holy Night" co-written by Michelle Williams. Knowles tells LAUNCH that she found writing the holiday songs easier than the other material she writes for Destiny's Child. "It's super easy, 'cause the hardest part... I write songs based on the concept. The first think of is, is like a title, like 'Bootylicious,' and then it's, it's real easy after that. But you have to find something to write about so people aren't bored. And when the concept is given to you, it's very easy to write a song. So you already know it's a Christmas song, so it's easy," she says. In addition to the group-penned originals, 8 Days of Christmas also includes "A 'DC' Christmas Medley" as well as Destiny's Child arrangements of "Silent Night," "Little Drummer Boy" (featuring Knowles' younger sister Solange), "Do You Hear What I Hear," "White Christmas," "Platinum Bells" and "This Christmas." Launch.com DESTINY'S TOUR? Destiny's Child have reportedly called off their European tour next month including a visit to the UK in the wake of the atrocities of 11 September and the outbreak of war in Afghanistan. Earlier this week the group cancelled three shows next week in Australia after their record company Sony Music took advice from the US government. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle deny the girls are involved in Michael Jackson's planned charity song, What More Can I Give? in aid of victims families of the atrocities. But together with Mariah Carey, O Town and Usher, the band have confirmed their appearance at the 21 October United We Stand concert at Washington DC's RFK Stadium in aid of families of victims of the US terrorist attacks, They join previously announced acts Michael Jackson, 'N Sync, Aerosmith, Backstreet Boys, Rod Stewart, Ricky Martin, Train, P Diddy, Goo Goo Dolls, James Brown and Al Green for the Washington DC event. More artists will be announced in the days leading up to the concert. Tickets for the event went on sale on Friday and are nearly sold-out, according to a statement from organizers who are still hoping Britney Spears and Bruce Springsteen will be added to the bill. Proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross Liberty Relief Fund, the Salvation Army Relief Fund and the Pentagon Relief Fund. Meanwhile Michael Jackson has cut a deal with McDonald's to sell his charity song in aid of terrorist victims families at the hamburger chain's stores for $2.99. Jackson will record the song, What More Can I Give?, the day before the 21 October Washington DC concert. Despite reports that they recorded their parts, Destiny's Child's spokesperson says Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle are not involved while Usher and Mya's sessions were scrapped at the last minute. When Jackson announced details of his plans to release the song in aid of victims' families of the 11 September atrocities he claimed Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake had agreed to take part. A week later the pair's spokespersons issued statements denying the stars were involved. There is still no release date for the song. Worldpop.com DESTINY'S PROJECTS To ensure they don't rival each other on the charts, the ladies of Destiny's Child will stagger their solo albums over the next year and a half and pursue film and television projects in their respective musical downtimes. First up with a solo disc will be Michelle Williams, who is planning a gospel album for early next year, according to Mathew Knowles, DC's manager and the father of singer Beyoncé Knowles. The record will include Williams' duet with veteran gospel singer Shirley Caesar on "Steal Away to Jesus" - a ballad that will first appear on Caesar's album Hymns, due October 30. Williams plans to record the remainder of her album before year's end and will mark her arrival in the gospel world at January's Stellar Gospel Music Awards. Destiny's Child's "Gospel Medley" and "Outro (DC-3) Thank You," which originally appeared on Survivor, will serve as bonus tracks on Williams' disc. Beyoncé is expected to announce next week that she has accepted a supporting actress role in a major movie, her father said. After completing that project, she will turn her attention toward a solo album, due next fall. Kelly Rowland's solo debut will be the last to drop, surfacing in early 2003 and sporting an "alternative R&B" style, Knowles said. Kelly's plans in the meantime include making appearances on television, beginning with a guest-star role on an episode of the Nickelodeon sitcom "Taina." The episode will be shot in early December. "I wouldn't want any of my artists to directly compete with each other," Knowles said. "They're so multitalented that while one's working TV, the other can be working a record." Between all the solo projects, the ladies will still find plenty of time to be a trio. Destiny's Child are planning to headline a tour kicking off in March or April that will also feature Beyoncé's younger sister, Solange, and other artists managed by Knowles. The trek will concentrate on cities that Destiny's Child didn't already visit on MTV's recent "TRL" tour. Solange is scheduled to release her debut, Solo Star, in February. Solo Star's title track appeared on this summer's "Osmosis Jones" soundtrack. The album will also include a duet with Beyoncé and a guest appearance from Destiny's Child. Solange and DC already collaborated on the theme song to the Disney Channel's animated series "The Proud Family." MTV.com DESTINY'S CHRISTMAS Destiny's Child have firmed up the track list for what they hope will be a popular stocking stuffer this holiday, 8 Days of Christmas, due October 30. The trio frolic around a toy store with a bunch of kids in the video they just completed for the title track, according to group manager Mathew Knowles. Their dolls also appear in the clip, stacked on shelves and ready to be swept up by Christmas shoppers — much as they are in every toy shop in the country. While the song brings to mind the classic "12 Days of Christmas," Knowles stressed it is "conceptually, musically and lyrically" different thanks to Beyoncé Knowles. Beyoncé also penned "Winter Paradise," "Spread a Little Love on Christmas Day" and album-closer "Opera of the Bells," which features the threesome singing a cappella. Each of the ladies has her own power ballad, with Michelle Williams singing "O Holy Night," Kelly Rowland crooning "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and Beyoncé belting out "Silent Night". Beyoncé's younger sister, Solange, guests on "Little Drummer Boy." The album also features a medley of holiday classics, including "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Frosty the Snowman," "Jingle Bells," "Holly Jolly Christmas," "Deck the Halls" and an upgraded version of "Silver Bells" titled "Platinum Bells." 2001 MTV EUROPE AWARDS DESTINY'S CHILD, DIDO and JANET JACKSON are the first acts confirmed to appear at the MTV EUROPE AWARDS in FRANKFURT. This year's event takes place in the city's Festhalle venue on November 8. All three are confirmed to perform live, with more bands to be announced in the coming weeks. Destiny's Child is nomineed three times: "Best Group", "Best R&B" and "Best Song (Survivor)"! Congratulations! More nominees: Jennifer Lopez - Best
